Warriors wrap-up tournament with win over Colorado Springs

LAS VEGAS — The Stanislaus State softball team will return home with a winning record after defeating Colorado-Colorado Springs, 6-5, at the Desert Stinger tournament on Super Bowl Sunday.

Ruby Quiralte belted a 2-run homer in the first and a four-run fourth inning propelled the team to the win as the Warriors improved to 3-2. Jill Costa went 2-for-3 including driving in a run that help Stan State scored those four runs in the fourth. Cheyenne Harper also drove in two runs with a two-out single to right in that inning.

In the circle, Kiley Ragsdale went the distance for the complete game win. Despite allowing 12 hits, Ragsdale got out of several jams and gave up four earned runs. She struck out three and walked four in the outing.

After giving up two one-out hits and a walk in the third inning, Ragsdale got out of trouble with a groundout and a lineout. The bases loaded grounder to second came to as Amy Pedretti gunned down a runner. With a 6-4 lead in the top of the seventh, Ragsdale allowed a run and gave up three hits but got the final batter to struck out looking to end the game for the narrow one-run win.

In five games at the tournament, hosted by Montana State Billings, the Warriors batted .349 and scored 41 runs. Quiralte had two of the team's four homers.

Stanislaus will open California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday with another long road trip, this time to La Jolla to take on UC San Diego.
