CARSON —
Jordan Kron and the Warriors were edged in the opener and Cal State Dominguez jumped out early in the nightcap as Stanislaus State dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 3-2 and 13-7, on Saturday.
The Warriors, now 18-17 overall and 9-14 in CCAA, and the Toros will wrap-up the three-game series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Kron, the CCAA pitcher of the week, had another outstanding outing. The junior righthander had tossed three complete games in his four previous starts and was about to go the distance again. Instead, he threw eight strong innings, but CSUDH's Joe Bresson matched him each inning.
Kron gave up three runs on seven hits in eight innings and struck out six for the hard-luck loss. Bresson gave up two runs on seven hits and fanned five in eight innings of work, too.
The Toros (19-18, 12-13 CCAA) won in walkoff fashion after a Miguel Castaneda triple to right to start the ninth. Two batters later, Lester Salcedo hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the winner.
Scott Stetson and
Nick Ippolito each had two hits in game one to lead Stan State.
In the nightcap, a five-run third for CSUDH gave the Toros an early 5-0 lead that they did not surrender. In the end, the Toros scattered 15 hits to score 13 runs off of five Warrior pitchers.
Nick Voumard suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on seven hits in four innings.
Kyle Nixon went 2-for-5, drove in three runs, including a solo homer in the seventh.
Gino Franceschetti was 2-for-4 and two RBI and
Aldo Koutsoyanopulos also had two hits.
