SEASIDE —
Kylie Ragsdale shut-down the Otters and
Ruby Quiralte belted another homer as Stanislaus State won game one of the twinbill on Saturday to earn a split on the final day of the season at Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Warriors beat CSUMB, 2-1, in game one before losing the season finale in another one run game, 5-4. Stanislaus State ends the 2016 campaign with a much-improved 25-28 overall record (17-23 CCAA).
Freshman starter Ragsdale was in control all game in her final start of the year shutting down a CSUMB team trying to celebrate senior day. Ragsdale gave up just the one run on three hits with three strikeouts to finish the year 16-17. The Otters scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Courtney Varela that scored Jenae Coleman, a pinch-runner for Marissa Hukkanen who drew a leadoff walk.
Quiralte had given the Warriors an early 2-0 lead with a two-run bomb in the first inning. After two strikeouts to start the game,
Amy Pedretti singled to center just ahead of Quiralte's shot to dead-center field. Quiralte ends the year seven homeruns and leads the team with a .374 average. Quiralte ends game one with two hits and added two more in the nightcap to finish the season with 32 hits, tying
Cassidy Duke.
Alexus Martinez was 2-for-3 and
Nicolette Vizcaino had three RBI in game two.
The Warriors scored four runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4 of the finale. Vizcaino's double cleared the bases for three runs and Duke drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game.
However, the Otters (26-26-1, 16-22-1) won in walkoff with an infield single by Marieele Valdez to plate Varela to end the game, and the season for both teams.
Stanislaus State wrapped up the 2016 season, under first year head coach
Jessica Ventoza, with 25 wins — the most for the program since 2009.
