ARCATA — The Stanislaus State softball team gave up just three runs in the series finale against a powerful No. 3 ranked Humboldt State team on its home turf before being swept 9-4 and 3-0 on Saturday.
The Lumberjacks complete the four-game sweep over the Warriors to run their winning streak to 11 games to improve to 35-3-1 overall and 24-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Stan State fell to 21-22 overall and 13-17 in CCAA play but will have six home games next week back on campus.
Ruby Quiralte,
Cassidy Duke and
Amy Pedretti each had two hits in the first game on Saturday to lead the offense, which collected seven hits. Duke and
Alex Rowell doubled and Quiralte had a triple.
Quiralte's triple and Duke's double in the sixth each drove in a run to make the score 5-4. The Warriors had taken a 2-0 lead in the second with a RBI groundout by a
Brianna Martens and a HSU error that plated
Amy Pedretti.
However, Humboldt State scored three times in the fifth and ended up with four-run sixth for the 9-4 final. Unlike Friday, HSU did not hit a homer in the two games o Saturday.
In the series finale, the Warriors held HSU to just three runs after the Lumberjacks scored 26 runs in the first three games.
Katelyn McDonald had two of the team's three hits in the second game.
The Warriors will host a make-up doubleheader on Wednesday versus Cal State East Bay before a four-game set against Sonoma State at Warrior Softball Field next weekend.
