ROHNERT PARK — Stanislaus State pounded out 16 hits in the series finale as the Warriors beat-up on Sonoma State, 10-2, to earn another doubleheader split on Sunday at Seawolf Diamond. Sonoma State edged the Warriors, 2-1, in the first game as the teams split the four-game series this weekend.
Nick Ippolito went 4-for-4 and hit three doubles and
Aldo Koutsoyanopulos continues his tear at the plate going 3-for-5 and drove in four runs to lead the Stan State charge. The Warriors remain .500 and are now 22-22 overall (13-19 CCAA). Unlike a normal twinbill, both games on Sunday were 9 innings in length.
Patrick Mulry and
Michael Chavarria each also had three hits in the 16-hit parade. Stanislaus jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings en route to the blow-out win after a tight first game. Mulry drove in two runs with a single and Koutsoyanopulos singled in a run to cap-off a five-run second inning for the Warriors.
Koutsoyanopulos, who singled in the first run in the opening inning, also had a two-run hit in the ninth for his four RBI day. Koutsoyanopulos, who went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI in Saturday's second game, is now batting .348 for the season. He now has 31 RBIs this season.
Starter
Micah Hall lasted three innings in his second collegiate start and was replaced by
Nick Voumard, who came out of the bullpen strong. Voumard, who was a starter for most of the year, threw six shutout innings and gave up just two hits to completely silence the Seawolves. He also struckout six batters.
The teams were locked in a tight game in the opener with a 1-1 score after four. But nobody scored again until a walkoff single by SSU's Trevor Abrams in the bottom of the 11th to end the game.
Stan State managed just two hits against two Sonoma pitchers. Cal Becker threw the first seven innings and gave up just one hit and fanned 12 Warriors. Aldo Severson pitched four shutout innings and allowed just a single (
Nick Ippolito in the 10th).
Robbie DeVries tossed a great game, going eight strong and gave up just one unearned run on five hits with six strikeouts.
The Warriors and the Seawolves also split a doubleheader in Turlock on Saturday.
Stanislaus will complete their regular season schedule with four home games next weekend against Chico State. The series starts on Friday at 6 p.m.
