HAYWARD — The Stanislaus State women's soccer team opened its 2016 campaign with an impressive 3-1 win over Northwest Nazarene at Cal State East Bay's Pioneer Stadium.

Mayah Chambers each scored goals for the Warriors in a team-effort dominance over the Crusaders.
"I was very pleased with how dangerous we were in the attack. It was great to jump out to an early lead like we did," head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "Overall we played like it was our first game of the season. Lots of positives and things to build on."
Poon got the Warriors on top early in the ninth minute with a score to the left corner of the net after receving a through ball from Mikayla Clifford. Squarcia would make it 2-0 in the 16th minute as she and Poon worked a give-and-go at the top of the box to beat NNU goalkeeper Daniele Ortiz.
The score was 2-1 heading into the break as NNU put in a goal by Ashley Cook-Cox at 23:45.
Chambers would give Stan State a two-goal cushion with her first collegiate goal in the 78th minute for the final tally, Squarcia was credited with the assist on the score.
With three matches in five days, Bolton was able to get 20 players in the match. "
It was truly a team effort today. Lots of players contributed to our success which was great to see," he said.
The Warriors will return to Hayward to take on Colorado Mesa on Saturday (at 4:30 p.m.) before traveling to Fresno to face Fresno Pacific Monday night at 7 p.m. Colorado Mesa and Cal State East Bay played to a 0-0 draw Thursday night.

Haley Crook was credited with two saves Thursday night while Bolton applauded her efforts.
"
Haley came up with some big saves in breakaway situations in the first half. In the second half we were much more organized," added Bolton.
The Warriors out-shot NNU, 16-6, with a 10-2 shot-advantage in the second half.
