Series Notes: Stan State has won two straight — and six of the last seven — matches against Humboldt State, including two consecutive contests where the Warriors scored four goals. Stanislaus holds a 13-5-1 series record over HSU (7-2 at home) … The Warriors have also beaten Sonoma State three straight times after snapping a three-match skid in the series. Stanislaus defeated the Seawolves twice last season, including a 3-1 win in the CCAA tournament first-round match in Turlock on Nov. 3.
In the Rankings: After posting two victories, Cal State L.A. soared up to No. 13 in the national poll. UC San Diego (#21) is the only other CCAA team in the top 25 … Humboldt State, Sonoma State and Stanislaus State are not ranked in the regional top 10.
A Stan State Soccer Rarity: Perhaps it's a show of how dominate the programs have been in recent years, the Stanislaus men's and women's soccer teams combined to go 0-4 for just the first time since 2009. The teams went 0-4 on the same exact road trip, at Cal State Dominguez Hills (Friday) and Cal State L.A. (Sunday) on Sept. 25 & Sept. 27, 2009. In fact, the men's team has only lost two games on the same weekend three times since (2011, 2013, 2014).
Don't Worry, the Scoring Will Come: Despite the fact that the Warriors scored just one goal last weekend, and just six for the season, the team believes the scoring will come. The offense has put together some scoring chances but have not fully capitalize and finish those tries. The team is averaging 12.8 shots per game (9.5 in two CCAA contests).
Low Scoring Affairs: There may not be much scoring in this week's contests at Warrior Stadium. The three sides have combined to score just 13 goals this season. Humboldt State netted three in six matches, Sonoma State has scored four times in six contests and the Warriors have knocked in six.
More Overtime Matches: Stan State played in another overtime contest on Friday, the team's fourth in six matches. The Warriors have earned three ties and a loss in those four overtime games. They have already equal the number of OT games from each of the past three seasons. In 2015, the Warriors were 1-1-2 in OT contests (including two in the postseason) and were 1-0-3 in 2014 in extra time matches. In 2013, the Warriors were 2-2-0.
About Humboldt State (2-3-1, 0-2-0 CCAA): The Lumberjacks also opened league play 0-2 and are 2-3-1 overall. They lost at home to Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona by the score of 1-0 in each contest. HSU has been involved in four straight 1-0 matches and are 1-3 in those contests … Three different Lumberjacks — Johan Muliadi, Isaiah Dairo, Kory Gilmore — have a goal each.
About Sonoma State (1-2-3, 1-1-0 CCAA): The Seawolves split at home over the weekend and upset #23 Cal Poly Pomona, 2-1 before losing to Cal State San Bernardino 1-0 on Sunday … SSU is led by Armando Coronel who has two scores this season … SSU has faced some stiff competition with battles against (preseason #11) Seattle Pacific, Western Washington, California Baptist and Azusa Pacific in non-conference tilts.
