Series Notes: The Warriors will face Academy of Art in a preseason match for the third straight season. Stanislaus won last year's game in Turlock, 3-2 and the teams are even at 1-1-1 against each other … The Warriors pounded Holy Names, 9-0, on Sept. 14 last year at Warrior Stadium to improve to 3-0-0 in the head-to-head series.
CCAA Preseason Poll: Stan State was ranked No. 6 in the CCAA head coach's preseason poll as the Warriors are predicted to participate in the CCAA Championship tournament once again. Cal Poly Pomona was the favor to win the CCAA title, followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State L.A., Sonoma State and UC San Diego.
Oh, About That 9-0 Game: A year ago, on Sept. 14 against Holy Names, the Warriors set some records in the 9-0 rout. The 9 goals, 8 assists and 26 points scored were all team marks.
Daniel Kuczynski set tied single match record with three goals.
Baird's Brace Helped Team To Draw: Sean Baird scored twice in the season-opener at home on Thursday, which helped the team to a 2-2 tie against Fresno Pacific. He tied the match with his first goal at 38:52 and with 28 seconds left to play in regulation, his beauty score sent the contest into overtime.
Another Sean Chipping In On Offense: There is another Sean on offense who contributed in both of those
Sean Baird goals last Thursday.
Sean Bender assisted on both goals while
Fermin Chaidez and
Joshua Jacobs were also each credited with an assist.
Road Warriors Away From Home: This week's two road contests mark the beginning of the team's stretch of four matches away from Warrior Stadium. The Warriors will also open CCAA play on Sept. 16 in Carson before playing their next home game on Sept. 23. Last year, Stanislaus was 6-1 on the road.
About Academy of Art (0-1-0): The Urban Knights played once last week, a 3-0 loss on Friday at Cal State East Bay. They gave up 20 shots in that match … Art U finished 8-8-2 last season and was picked to finish 10 in the PacWest preseason poll.
About Holy Names (0-1-0): The Hawks, too, are coming off a loss at Cal State East Bay. They lost to the Pioneers, 1-0, on Sunday … Holy Names is picked to finish 13th in the PacWest preseason poll … They return 10 players including Domonic Calderon and Toby Tomassi, wach had two goals on last year's 2-15-1 team.
