Stanislaus, Art U played to 2-2 draw

SAN FRANCISCO — Two late scores by Academy of Art within 70 seconds of each other erased a Stanislaus State lead as the sides played to a 2-2 draw at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium Thursday afternoon.

As part of the Golden Gate Classic hosted by Academy of Art, the Warriors took a 2-0 lead only to see that evaporate in the 61st minute. In the end, the Warriors will carry their 0-1-2 record into Satudray's match against Holy Names back at SF State. Holy Names lost to San Francisco State, 1-0, in overtime on Thursday.

Stanislaus State had gone up 1-0 five minutes into the contest against the Urban Knights (0-1-1) when Desmond Madrigal scored a 3-yard close range shot after receiving a header-pass from Rafael Chavez.

The score held up until the second half when Manny Villegas scored unassisted on a counter-attack by beating his defender and booted past Art U goalkeeper Kevin Mendez.

But, Academy of Art even the score.

First, it was a penalty kick attempt at 60:40, converted by Jordan Seech. Seech then scored again 70 seconds later after collecting a cross from Philippe Zamignani to tie the score.

Teams then played defensive soccer the rest of the regulation and for two overtime periods for the draw.

Thomas Zajeft made his first start for Stan State in goal and picked up two saves.
