Ehrlich, Massengale dominate the net to lead Warriors

TURLOCK – Stanislaus State battles out a strong win in its home opener against Hawaii Pacific to cap the first day of the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena Thursday night.
 
The Warriors, now 2-3 on the season, conquered the Sharks in straight sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-14. Seniors Blair Ehrlich and Taylor Massengale dominated the net as they led their team to victory.
 
Ehrlich smashed a season high 17 kills against the Sharks hitting a .378 hitting percentage. With two serving aces, a solo block, as well as one assisted block, Ehrlich was single handedly responsible for 20.5 of the Warriors' 53 total points.
 
Massengale was also a force at the net with 12 kills and a .524 hitting percentage. She also had five assisted blocks and two solo blocks to account for another 16.5 points for Stanislaus State. Her seven blocks ties a career-best in a single match.
 
Defensive specialists Jocelyn Cervantes and Paige Walker held up the back row with 11 digs each, and Maddi Seidl passed along 29 assists to keep the Warriors undefeated at home.
 
The Sharks (3-3) were led by Lea Felton with a .429 hitting percentage. Pomai Recca had 11 kills for HPU.

In other matches on Thursday during the tournament, Concordia Irvine defeated Western Oregon in four (25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 25-8) and Chico State swept Alaska in straights sets (25-18, 25-23, 25-20). 
 
The D2 West Region Showcase continues tomorrow with five matches starting at 10 a.m. The Warriors will take on Alaska tomorrow at 3 p.m.
