Stan State blanks Humboldt State to post first conference win

ARCATA — The Stanislaus State women's soccer dominated Humboldt State for the program's win No. 201 as the Warriors shutout the Lumberjacks, 2-0, on Sunday.

Julia Cummings and Shawna McLaughlin scored goals as the Warriors earned their first California Collegiate Athletic Association victory. Stan State moves to 6-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in CCAA play.

Stanislaus State, celebrating its 20th season, had posted the program's 200th win on Sept. 10 versus Central Washington.

"This was our most complete match of the season. We dominated the ball for the entire 90 minutes," head coach Gabriel Bolton said.

Humboldt State, which beat Chico State on Friday, is now 5-4-1, 1-3-1 CCAA. Stanislaus State continues to win against the Lumberjacks, improved its all-time record to 16-6-0 with a 13-1-0 mark in the last 14 meetings.

Haley Crook grabbed four saves for the team's fourth shutout this season. Crook now has 10 clean sheets in her career.

Cummings scored her first career collegiate goal in the 30th minute to give the Warriors their first lead in six contests. She was assisted by Hannah Lewandowski

In the 51st minute, McLaughlin would make it 2-0 with a strong shot from a long distance. Gabriela Vargas was credited with the assist.

Stanislaus State had at least 20 shots but was credited with 10 with a 5-4 shot-on-goal advantage Warriors.

"Humboldt is a very well organized team who can hit you on the counter attack. They have some very explosive forwards. Our possession took away a lot of the transition in the game and we also did a great job of containing their forwards," added Bolton.

Stan State nearly took an early lead with its first shot attempt in the 10th minute but Ilena Rivera's shot hit the cross bar.

The Warriors will return home and host their next give matches at Warrior Stadium, starting with next Sunday's non-conference tilt against UC Santa Cruz.
