CHICO — The table was turned Thursday night in Chico as host Chico State avenged an Oct. 7 loss in Turlock in the hands of Stanislaus State. In the end, the Wildcats were victorious over the Warriors in straight sets, 26-24, 25-20, 25-15.
The very young and short-handed Warriors continued to trend downwards as they fell to 1-18 overall and 1-10 California Collegiate Athletic Association.
That one victory was against these same Chico State Wildcats inside Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick 12 days ago in front of an energetic home crowd. But Thursday night was different. The boisterous crowd was against Stan State as it helped the Wildcats avoid the series sweep.
The Warriors rallied from behind to make the first set interesting, tying at 24-24, before two straight Chico State kills for end the opener. From there, the Wildcats took the momentum en route to improve their records to 12-10, 6-6 CCAA.
Freshman
Rachel Klopfer led Stanislaus with eight kills and
Sierra Adams added seven spikes.
Morgan Miller had five kills and three assisted blocks. Short of libero/defensive specialists, head coach
Mallori Gibson-Rossi had to once again use
Sara Schell in the off-color jersey. Schell had nine digs.
Olivia Mediano had 11 kills and Tristen Thompson had 19 digs to pace Chico State.
Stanislaus State will make the treacherous trip across Highway 299 to Arcata to take on Humboldt State (3-13, 2-7 CCAA) Friday night.
