CARSON — The Stanislaus State men's soccer team concluded its 2017 season on Saturday with a loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 3-0, on Saturday.
Despite ending the year 6-6-5 overall, the Warriors doubled their win-totals from 2016 as they continues to rebuild the grow. Stan State also finished 3-5-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association — a better result than a season ago (1-10-1).
On Saturday against first place Cal State Dominguez Hills (12-4-2, 9-2-1 CCAA), the Warriors found themselves down early in the 28th minute and never recovered. The Toros added on two second half goals — within 33 seconds of each other — to put the match away.
The Warriors did play well in the second half and took chances against CSUDH but came up empty. In all, CSUDH edged Stan State on the shot-count in the second half, 12-11 (21-15 total).
Stan State had a penalty kick turned away in the 47th minute that would have tied the score at 1-1.
Bradlee Taylor's attempt was saved by Chase Gentry for CSUDH to preserve the shutout. Stan State managed six shots on goal forcing two Toro goalkeepers to each earn three saves.
Stanislaus finished 10th in the CCAA standings, ahead of Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State East bay and Cal State San Marcos.
