RENO, Nev. — The new look Stanislaus State men's basketball team hit the hard courts and show a lot of promise as the Warriors scored 83 points against Division I Nevada on Sunday.
Andy Cleaves led the Warriors with 18 points in the exhibition before the Wolfpack post a 100-83 win inside Lawlor Events Center.
Kaelen Mitchell scored 17 points with five three-pointers and five rebounds to pace Stan State.
Two more new Warriors were in double figures in scoring as well with
Xavier Francois netting 12, followed by
Vida Faniel with 11. Cleaves (Riverside CC), Francois (Yuba CC) and Faniel (Ventura College) are all junior college transfers.
The Warriors shot 51.4 percent in the second half, before ending with 43.5 for the night, and got as close as 14 points after trailing by as many as 33. Cleaves was 8-for-14 and Mitchell 6 of 14 from the floor. Mitchell made five of 11 three-point tries.
Stanislaus State will play an exhibition game at home Wednesday night, when the Warriors host Pacific Union at 8 p.m. inside the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
