Stan State defeated by the Gators in straight sets

TURLOCK - Struggling to pull themselves out of their slump, the Stanislaus State volleyball team lost to San Francisco State in straight sets on Tuesday night at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.

Desperately fighting for a victory, the Warriors kept it a close game but were unable to capture the win, falling 19-25, 22-25, and 21-25. Stan State is now 0-15 overall and 0-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Gators have advanced to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in league.

Sierra Adams was the offensive leader of the match with 10 kills, and Morgan Miller followed for the Warriors with six kills. Miller added two more offensive points with two aces, and Kaitlyn Iwamoto led on defense with 19 digs. Breanna Cannon facilitated the Warriors' offense with 16 assists and Jordan Tilley tallied 11 assists.

Stan State held their own offensively against the Gators, out-hitting them 35-30. The Warriors ultimately beat themselves by giving up 21 points from hitting errors and eight points from serving errors throughout the match. An abundance of errors plus scrappy Gator defense gave San Francisco State the win in the end.

Right side hitter Christine Johnson led SFSU with eight kills, and Eden Fukushima facilitated the Gators' offense with 23 assists. On defense, libero Jocelyn Rodriguez led with 18 digs and San Francisco State totaled 12 blocks as a team.

This Saturday the Warriors will host another CCAA North team, Chico State. The first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Arena.
