Warriors take set off of Cal State Monterey Bay to conclude season

SEASIDE – In their final match of the 2017 season, the Stanislaus State volleyball team fought until the final serve before losing to Cal State Monterey Bay in four sets on Saturday night at The Kelp Bed.
 
Battling for their last chance at a win, the Warriors took a set off of CSUMB, but ultimately gave up the victory 18-25, 25-17, 13-25, and 17-25. Stan State concluded their season 3-23 overall and 3-15 in the CCAA. The Otters will continue on to the conference tournament with a 14-12 and 8-10 CCAA record.
 
Yisel Perez led the Warriors from the outside with 14 kills. Sara Schell followed with eight kills and Morgan Miller had six kills. Breanna Cannon led with 21 assists, and sharing time running the Warriors' offense, Jordan Tilley tallied 14 assists.
 
Libero Kaitlyn Iwamoto was the leading defender for Stan State with 23 digs from the back row, and Tilley added 14 digs for the Warriors.
 
After falling in set one, Stan State pushed back and claimed the set two victory with a greater hitting efficiency and fewer errors. The Warriors tied the set at 4-4 and cruised on with the lead. Two three-point runs followed by a five-point run made up by three Warriors kills and two Otter errors, gave Stan State the win.
 
After taking set two by eight points, the Warriors struggled to maintain their offensive proficiency after the intermission, givingCal State Monterey Bay the next two sets consecutively.
 
Amber Tygart led the Otters offense with 17 kills and Maddy Underwood trailed with 12 kills. Erica Chapa facilitated CSUMB's offense with 39 assists, and added 22 digs on defense. Ashlynne Armstrong led for Cal State Monterey Bay with 25 digs.
