TURLOCK — A well-rested Seattle Pacific team shot nearly 60 percent for the game as the visiting Falcons defeated Stanislaus State, 90-79, Monday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
Despite a career-high effort by
Caleb Baskett, who led all players with 20 points, the Warriors hit a little bump in this non-conference match-up to fall to 9-3 as they snapped a five-game winning streak. Stan State will head into the mandatory holiday break and will not hit the floor for game action until Dec. 29 when CCAA play resumes.
Seattle Pacific, which last played on Dec. 2 in Ellensburg, Wash., hit shots from all over the floor. SPU shot 66.7 percent in the first half and ended up 58.9 percent for the game. The Falcons were also 10 of 21 (47.6 percent) from the arch. SPU scored 90 or more points for the fourth time in nine games this season to improve to 6-3. Seattle Pacific had entered the night averaging 82.9 points per game.
SPU came out of the break with a 12-0 run to take a 55-46 lead. An 8-0 sprint in the middle of the second half pushed the Falcons' lead to 15 at 77-62. SPU's biggest lead was 19 at 87-68 after Sam Simpson sparked a 5-0 run with a three-pointer.
Stanislaus State shot well, too, as the Warriors finished 30 of 61 from the floor (49.2 percent). However, they were out-rebounded 36-24.
Baskett was 7 of 9 from the field with three three-pointers for his career high 20 points. He also had four assists and four steals.
Vida Faniel poured in 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting to also pace Stan State. Three Warriors —
Kyle Gouveia,
Andy Cleaves and
Ty Davis — each chipped in 11 points.
Tony Miller led SPU with 18 points and eight rebounds and Gabe Colosimo had eight assists to go with his nine points and seven rebounds.
