TURLOCK — In their final regular season home game, the trio of Warrior seniors led the Stanislaus State women's basketball team to an important victory over Chico State, 67-61, Thursday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
The Warriors, now 14-12, 12-5 in conference, has won four straight games heading into the final stretch of the regular season schedule. With the win, Stanislaus State, now in third place, has secured a spot in the CCAA conference tournament. With three games remaining, the Warriors still have a chance to host a first-round game if they could finish in the top four.
Three Warrior seniors dominated at the hoop totaling 54 of the Warriors' points.
Reana Hardin's lead the way with 22 points,
Cassidy Sanders-Curry had 17 points and 13 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season, while adding on six steals.
Riley Holladay had 15 points and eight rebounds.
Stan State came out with a slow start, falling behind 19-10 at the end of the first quarter. Midway through the third period the Warriors tied up the game at 36 a piece with an 11-0 run that ultimately gave them a 40-36 lead. Holladay made a layup with 56 seconds left in the third for the Warriors' biggest lead at nine.
The Warriors shot 32.9 percent from the field and converted on 16-for-17 at the free throw line, banking every free throw until the final 30 seconds of the game.
Stan State tallied 11 turnovers and 14 steals to the Wildcats 24 turnovers and six steals.
Whitney Branham led the Wildcats (14-9, 9-8 CCAA) with 15 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Prange and McKena Barker also had seven rebounds each.
Stan State will travel to Chico State on Saturday to play their travel partner for the second time in three days.
