Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stan State men come up short in overtime thriller

SAN FRANCISCO — For the second consecutive game, the Stanislaus State men's basketball team played in tight contests with chances to seal a CCAA win. However, the Warriors once again came up just short as host San Francisco State got the extra bucket it needed to win 77-72 in overtime Friday night.

Jaelen Ragsdale, a true freshman who has developed quickly as a late-game go-to player, tied his career best with 20 points and Kaelen Mitchell scored 17 points before Stan State dropped to 6-15 overall and 3-11 in the CCAA.

The Warriors had the ball with 10 seconds left to play in regulation in a tie game. After a timeout, the ball was in the hand of Ragsdale for the game-winner. His long three-point try rimmed out with the two Warrior bigs waiting for an offensive rebound. But it was SF State's AJ Kahlon with the defensive board to send the game into overtime.

In extra time, the Gators ran off to a 5-point lead. Still, the Warriors tied the game on a pair of Kyle Gouveia free throws with 47 seconds left. But 6-foor-9 center Jash Kahlon rattled in a trey to put SF State up for good.

Nick Calcaterra led SF State, now 17-3 overall and 11-3 in CCAA, with 17 points. Warren Jackson added 16 and Jash Kahlon finished with 13 — including 3-for-3 from the 3-point arch.

Vondel Faniel scored 11 points with 10 rebounds and Medina also had 11 points (3 three-pointers) and five assists to pace Stanislaus State. Mitchell had five of the Warriors' 11 triples on the night.
