SACRAMENTO — The Stanislaus State men's relay team capped a busy day on the track at Hornet Stadium as the Warriors competed at the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State.
In the final event of the day, the men's 4x400-meter relay team posted a seasonal best time of 3 minutes, 15.32 seconds to finish second, behind only Weber State. The Warriors group were made-up of
Terrence Gladney,
Nicholas Johnson,
Ramon Vargas and
Noveleen Thiara as the men shaved off two seconds from the time posted two weeks ago on home track (3:17.62).
Earlier in the day, the men's 4x100-meter relay team clocked 42.01 with nearly the same group of Warriors (
Isaac McCrimon, Gladney, Johnson and Thaira). The women's relay teams also posted solid results with a 48.06 in the 4x100 and 3:50.19 in the 4x400.
Thaira had a great day as he also recorded a personal best in his specialty event of 400-meter hurdles. He ran a 53.85 on Saturday, against a field of Division I athletes, to beat his previous PR of 54.38 set at the 2016 CCAA Track & Field Championships.
Staying on the track at Hornet Stadium, the distance team continues to improve as a handful of Stan State harriers notched personal records. Three women —
Harleen Pabla (4:42.89),
Clarissa Morales (4:46.69) and
Cynthia Mejia (4:47.66) — all beat their personal bests in the 1500-meter run with Pabla taking off eight seconds. In the 5K,
Stephanie Bernal ran a 18:30.67 and
Joel Perez clocked 15:39.56, both bests.
Other highlights on the track include a 12.36 seconds time by
Naomi Peterson in the Women's 100-meter dash while Gladney sprinted to a 11.05 time in the men's 100.
In women's pole vault, Jaime Stanford cleared 10-foot-4 for a top 10 finish and personal best and in men's hammer,
Eric Bejaran (182'-6") and
Juan Contreras (178'-10") went third and fourth, respectively.
