TURLOCK – To finish up the Tournament of Champions the Stanislaus State softball team won back to back shutouts against Chaminade and Notre Dame de Namur on Sunday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.
On their home field for the final day of the tournament Stan State won two consecutive 8-0 games in six innings against the Silverswords, and in five innings against the Argonauts. The Warriors are now 18-21 overall.
Stan State's 4-2 tournament record put them in a tie for third place. The Warriors were the top pitching team in the entire Tournament of Champions (0.41 era), and two Warriors made the all-tournament team.
Kylie Ragsdale and
Nicolette Vizcaino were two of 17 athletes chosen for the TOC all-tournament team.
A number of Warriors had an amazing day at the plate, totaling 21 hits to eight hits from their opponents.
Nicolette Vizcaino was 4-for-4 in game one, hit a triple, and earned an RBI.
Cassidy Duke was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and
Alexus Martinez als hit a double and earned an RBI.
Deja Guzman was 3-for-5 for the day hitting a triple in game one and earning two RBIs in game two.
Katelyn McDonald also had an RBI in game one, and went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the nightcap.
Megan Stacy went 2-for-3 in the second game and had an RBI.
In game one the Warriors took the lead quick into the first inning when Vizcaino hit a triple and Duke's single drove her safely to home plate. Duke's double started Stan State's string of runs in the third inning as they scored three more times.
With two outs in the fourth, Martinez's double kept the ball in play and earned the first of two Stan State runs in the inning. A Silversword error put
Morgan Balestreri on second base in the sixth before Duke drove her in, and
Ruby Quiralte finished the game by sending Martinez to home plate.
In the nightcap Stan State entered the game with confidence, scoring three runs in the first inning alone. One more in the third and the final three in the fourth inning gave the Warriors their winning score. The bottom of the fourth was highlighted by McDonald's single to center field that sent Quiralte and Duke diving for home plate.
Kylie Ragsdale was the winning pitcher in game one and she is now 10-8 in the circle. Ragsdale gave up five hits, walked one batter, and struck out two.
Megan Stacy threw the second shutout of the day and is now 4-2 from the circle. She gave up a mere three hits, walked two batters, and struck out three.
