TURLOCK – On their last day of the season, the Stanislaus State softball team put up a fight against UC San Diego before falling 7-12 and 3-7 to the Tritons on Saturday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.
With their last series of the year concluded, the Warriors ended their season 23-32, and 13-27 in the CCAA. The Tritons ended conference play 30-22 and 21-19.
In the opener,
Nicolette Vizcaino stole the Stan State record with her 37
th stolen base of the season, and added one more in each game to end the year with 39 stolen bases. In the nightcap
Alexus Martinez surpassed the Stan State record of 74 base hits in a single season. With three hits in the final game against the Tritons, Martinez ended the year with 76 base hits.
Although Stan State ended on a loss, the Warriors did well at the plate.
Deenah San Luis,
Cassidy Duke, and
Ruby Quiralte each hit a double in the opener. San Luis was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Duke was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Quiralte was 1-for-3 with two RBI, and
Morgan Balestreri was 2-for-4.
Alexus Martinez had an excellent day overall going 6-for-8 with an RBI in each game. Vizcaino finished off the day with three hits on four at-bats in game two, also earning an RBI.
Katelyn McDonald had a hit in each game to round out the Warriors 19 total hits for the day.
In game one UC San Diego was first to score with three runs in the third inning. Immediately after which the Warriors also put three on the board. The Tritons took their lead with eight runs in the fifth inning, seven of which were earned off of RBI singles. The Warriors scored four more in the next three innings, but were unable to close the point gap.
In the nightcap, Stan State was the first to put a run on the board, but two Triton doubles and a homer gave UC San Diego the lead. Vizcaino's RBI double in the seventh with two outs posted briefly kept Stan State in the game before the Triton's took the win.
Kylie Ragsdale suffered the loss in game one pitching 6.1 innings. She gave up eight earned runs on 14 hits, walked one batter and struck out two. Ragsdale ended the season 12-13 in the circle.
Kristin Bort took the loss from the circle in the nightcap throwing all seven innings. She gave up seven earned runs on 10 hits, walked four batters, struck out three, and is 4-7 in the circle.
