Warriors sweep Cal State East Bay in regular season finale

HAYWARD -- With more strong pitching and timely hitting the Warriors wrap up the regular season with two more wins, 10-1 and 3-1, in a doubleheader sweep over Cal State East Bay on Saturday.

Stanislaus State ends the 2017 campaign with a 34-16 overall record -- the most wins since the 2008 team went 37-23. That 2008 team played in the CCAA Tournament and reached the NCAA West Region Championship tournament.

The Warriors 14-2 in their final 16 games to finish 23-15 in league play for second place in the CCAA North. Stan State will face UC San Diego on Wednesday in a first round game of the CCAA Baseball Tournament. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton.

Stewart Alexander picked up another win to improve to 8-3. He also ended up with a 1.78 ERA. Alexander won game on on Saturday with one of his best performances of the season. He threw eight innings and gave up just one run on six hits with four strikeouts.

Nick Voumard earned another save, extending his NCAA Division II lead to 15 on the season. He threw an easy ninth inning in the 7-inning nightcap win.

Gino Franceschetti went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in five runs in game one. Charlie Gaff also had two hits and drove in two scores while Nick Ippolito and Adam Nascimento each also had two hits.

Ipplito also went 2-for-4 in game two for a four-hit day. Kyle Nixon belted his 10th home run of the season -- the most total by a Warriors since Doug Porras hit 10 in 2010 (Porras had four homers in the season finale game).
