Warriors kick off the regular season at the Concordia Labor Day Invitational

Stan State volleyball commences their 2017 regular at the Concordia Labor Day Invitational hosted by Concordia-Irvine.

Series Notes: This will be the Warriors first time facing Winona State, California Baptist, and McKendree. Stan State played Concordia-Irvine for the first time last season, losing in straight sets at home during the DII West Region Showcase.
 
Preseason Poll: In the 2017 preseason coaches poll Stan State was picked to finish fourth in the north division of the CCAA, clinching a third consecutive place in the postseason tournament. The Warriors are preceded by Cal State East Bay, Chico State, and Sonoma State. Cal State San Bernardino was picked top in the south division and favorited for the CCAA title.   
 
Stan State Seniors: This season Stan State has four seniors returning for their final season as Warriors. Morgan Miller is in her fifth season at Stan State while Hailey Gruetzmacher and Rebecca Conley joined the team in 2014. Sara Schell, a transfer from Sierra College is in her second Stan State season but still leads the team as one of the senior leaders.
 
Coaches Outlook: Eagerly awaiting the start of the 2017 season coach Mallori Gibson-Rossi has much to say about the team's preseason thus far. "A lot of our practices have been geared towards six on six drills so that our girls can get used to playing with one another, since more than half of our girls are new," said Gibson-Rossi. "The main focus of our preseason has been getting everybody used to communicating with one another, learning how each person is motivated, and learning how each person moves out on the floor."
 
About Winona State:  Winona State has been picked first in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and fifth in the country on the AVCA preseason coaches poll. Last season the Warriors finished fifth in their league going 27-6. Winona State is returning their top three kill leaders, Taylor Goar (3.69 k/set), Danielle Rampart (3.03 k/set), and Lauren Kudronowicz (2/74 k/set), as well as their assist leader McKenna Larsen (11.58 a/set).

About Concordia-Irvine: Ranked first in the Pacific West Conference (Pac West) and No. 22 in the AVCA preseason coaches poll, Concordia-Irvine is coming off of a 26-3 campaign. The Eagles are returning their kill leader Rachel Flynn who had 438 kills (4.02 kills per set) in 2016.
 
About California Baptist: California Baptist is coming off of a 20-9 overall record in 2016 and are predicted to finish second in the Pac West. The Lancers are returning their kill leader Lauren Hackett (492 kills, 4.47 k/set), and starting setter Sydney Kralj (1132 assists).
 
About McKendree: After a 23-10 campaign in 2016, McKendree has been picked to finish at the top of the north division of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats are returning outside hitter Arela Williams who led the team in both kills (3.79 k/set), and digs (3.27 d/set).
