Warriors look to earn a win at CCAA home opener

This Friday the Warriors will host their CCAA home opening match against Cal State Dominguez Hills at the new Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena, followed by a match against Cal State L.A. on Saturday.

Series Notes: Stan State is 19-17 against the Toros since 1998. Last season the Warriors faced CSUDH once in Carson, taking home a victory in straight sets … The Warriors are only 4-32 against the Golden Eagles, earning their latest victory just last season in L.A. Breaking a 13-match losing streak Stan State went home with a win in three sets. Hailey Gruetzmacher led the Warriors with nine digs.
 
CCAA Home Opener: Over the past five years the Warriors have won three of their CCAA home opening matches. Last season Stan State dominated Cal State Monterey Bay in straight sets for their first conference win of the season. In 2015, the Warriors defeated San Francisco State In three sets, hosting their conference home opener on a Tuesday evening.
 
Hoping for Health: Traveling last weekend to Washington the Warriors were short four players with injuries and illnesses, and lost one more during play on Friday. With ample recovery time Stan State is hoping to be back to a full roster for their first conference game of the season.
 
Preseason Poll: In the 2017 preseason coaches poll Stan State was picked to finish fourth in the north division of the CCAA, clinching a third consecutive place in the postseason tournament. The Warriors are preceded by Cal State East Bay, Chico State, and Sonoma State. Cal State San Bernardino was picked top in the south division and favorited for the CCAA title.  

About Cal State Dominguez Hills:  Tati Yandall has led the Toros' offense with 3.06 kills per set (.208) and Rylee Kiger runs the offense with 9.85 assists per set. On defense Cathryn Lopez leads with 5.75 digs per set and Morelia Castro averages 1.27 blocks per set … Last weekend at the DII West Region Showcase the Toros went 1-3 defeating Montana State Billings in straight sets. Cal State Dominguez Hills lost matches to Notre Dame de Namur, Point Loma, and Saint Martin's.

About Cal State L.A.: Outside hitter Karla Santos is leading the Golden Eagles with 3.85 kills per set and averages three digs per set. Jeshmarie Suarez leads Cal State L.A.'s back row with 3.33 digs per set … The Golden Eagles went 2-2 last weekend in at the DII West Region Showcase with two four-set victories over Simon Fraser and Dominican. The Golden Eagles were defeated by Northwest Nazarene and Hawaii Pacific.
