Series Notes:Â Stan State has won a mere five matches against the Tritons since joining the CCAA, two of which were earned last season. The Warriors first took down UC San Diego in three sets on senior night, then defeated them in four sets at the conference tournament less than two weeks later. Libero
Hailey Gruetzmacher totaled 39 digs between the two matches … Stan State is 1-2 against Cal State San Marcos in the past two seasons since the Cougars became a member of the CCAA. Last year the Warriors hosted Cal State San Marcos, taking a set off the Cougars 25-11.
Â
New Leading Lady: Freshman outside hitter
Rachel Klopfer seems to be adjusting comfortably into the role of the Warriors' leading hitter. She led the Warriors both nights this past weekend, totaling 29 kills and 23 digs. With 11 kills against Cal State Dominguez Hills and 18 kills against Cal State L.A., Klopfer has been in double digit kills five times so far this season. Klopfer has led the offense three times, her first leading match taking place in Washington against Concordia-Portland with 11 kills.
Â
Breaking the Streak: So far unable to record a win in 2017, the Warriors work to stay positive in hopes of turning the season around. "As a team, we are focusing on the character we are building through this process. We have faced many adversities during our preseason and it's been an important lesson for us to learn the value of resilience, hard work, discipline, and passion for the game," says coach
Mallori Gibson-Rossi. "I am proud of the fight and courage our young ladies show every day. We will continue to believe in ourselves, have faith in our abilities, and stay confident in the process to reach our goals."
About UC San Diego:  Amanda Colla has led the Tritons' offense so far with an average of 3.35 kills per set (.182) and Mary Bagshaw runs the offense with 9.23 assists per set. In the back row, Alyson Rose averages 4.16 digs per set to lead UC San Diego while Colla is also scrappy on defense with 4 digs per set … Last Saturday the Tritons played their travel partner at home, defeating Cal State San Marcos in four sets.
