ELLENSBURG - Building on their growth as a young team, in their only match of the day the Stanislaus State volleyball team took a set off of Concordia Portland before being defeated in four sets at the Nicholson Pavilion on Friday afternoon.
Opening the match with an aggressive start, the Warriors took set one 25-21. As the match progressed the Cavaliers took over the momentum winning the next three straight 22-25, 20-25, and 15-25. Arguably one of the strongest winless teams, Stan State is now 0-7 in preseason. Concordia Portland advanced to 4-1.
Rachel Klopfer led the Warriors offense from both the front and the back row with 11 kills. Stan State had a dominant offense from the right side,
Sierra Adams with 10 kills (.381) and
Yisel Perez with eight kills. Quarterbacking the match for the Warriors were setters
Jordan Tilley and
Breanna Cannon. Tilley led with 21 assists and tallied 11 digs while Cannon totaled 18 assists and led the team with 13 digs.
Numerous Warriors put up walls at the net with a total of 16 block assists as a team.
Rebecca Conley led with five,
Morgan Miller had four blocks, and Adams tallied two.
Stan State came out strong in set one playing scrappy defense and using strength at the net for tough attacks and solid blocks. The Warriors totaled six blocks in set one and Adams hit .667 going 4-for-6. Four serving aces and minimal attacking errors kept the Warriors in the lead through the end. Their steady game faulted with each set despite their high energy and strong efforts.
Lindsay Dorsey led the Cavaliers from the right side with 16 kills and setter Michele Brown ran their offense with 33 assists. Allie Spear led with 14 digs and Ana Dols assisted in the back row with 13 digs.
Stan State will play their final match of the tournament tomorrow at 3 o'clock p.m. against Azusa Pacific with the hopes of earning their first preseason win.
