Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Davis leads five players in double digits in win over SF State

TURLOCK  — Ty Davis has been mainly a ball distributor this season. But Saturday night, he did more than that as he also rebounded and scored in leading the Warriors over San Francisco State, 86-73, in an exciting collegiate basketball game.

Davis led five Stanislaus State players in double digits with a career-high 18 points as the Warriors improved to 13-7 overall and 8-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors remain in sixth place in the CCAA standings heading into the final month of regular season play.

Davis also pulled 14 rebounds (also a career best) for a double-double for his best outing since posting a triple-double on Nov. 15. Saturday night against SF State (13-8, 9-6 CCAA), Davis also had six assists and four steals. Before the night, Davis was averaging 9.5 points a game and had just four double figure scoring games out of the last 11 contests.

Kaelen Mitchell also scored 18 points behind four three-pointers and Xavier Francois scored 15 points off the bench. Andy Cleaves added 13 and Vida Faniel chipped in 12. The Warrior quintet scored 76 of the 86 points on 28 of 54 shooting (.519).

San Francisco State, which snapped a six-game winning streak, led for most of the first half and had a 41-39 advantage at intermission, but the Warriors came out of the break on fire. Stan State used a 17-5 run to start the second half, including 13 unanswered points for a 56-46 lead at 14:33. The Warriors only missed one shot in the five-plus minute spurt.

Stan State closed out the game with a 14-3 run, including the game's final five points for the final margin.

Both teams shot well on the night overall with the Warriors hitting on 51.6 percent of their shots (SF State made 54.4 percent). But Stan State won the long range battle with eight-made three-pointers. The Gators were just 4 of 21 from distance.

SF State was led by Evan Zeller's 20 points but he was just 1 for 9 from the arch.
