Warriors Break Five Game Losing Streak with Win Against Simon Fraser

BELLINGHAM, Wash. –The Warriors took home their first win of the Vikings Holiday Hoops Classic, Monday, after showing great offensive play. The Warriors beat Simon Fraser University Monday night with a victory of 75-63, making the Warriors 2-6 overall. This marks the women's basketball team's first win after a five-game losing streak.

Four Warriors hit double digits and season highs all around. Alexus Kelly and Caitlin Keding both led with 16 points, each reaching season highs. Angelica Baylon had a season high with 15 points and six assists tying with Kyanna Davis who also had six assists, a season best. Davis was the fourth Warrior to reach double with 14 points and led in rebounds with nine.

Both teams were neck and neck for the majority of the game until Stanislaus took the bigger lead in the fourth quarter. It wasn't until the last five minutes of the game where the Warriors picked up momentum and gained a lead of seven. They eventually would gain a lead of 14 with one minute left and Simon Fraser could not catch up.

The Warriors lead for a total 26 minutes 38 seconds throughout the game. Stan scored 30 points in the paint and shot 9-11 from the free throw line. Stan scored 22 points off turnovers, only giving away six points to Simon Fraser off of turnovers.

Leading scorer for SFU was Jessica Jones with 17 points. Samantha Beauchamp led in rebounds with seven.

Despite Simon Fraser putting up a fight, it was not enough to stop the hot scoring Warriors Monday night.

The team will take on Western Washington in their second game of the Vikings Holiday Hoops Classic tomorrow, December 18, at 7:30 p.m.
