TURLOCK — The three Warrior seniors put it all on the Fitzpatrick Arena floor Saturday night in front of their friends and families as all three of them contributed greatly in the 92-69 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Senior Night.
Kaelen Mitchell scored a career-high 27 points,
Kyle Gouveia pulled 11 more rebounds for another double-double, and
Richard Medina had six assists and played great defense as the Warriors wrapped-up the regular season 17-11 overall and 12-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Mitchell put his skills on display as he was joined by a large contention of family all wearing his number on their shirts. His fan club from his hometown of San Diego will get to see him again in person on Tuesday as the sixth-seeded Warriors will travel to face No. 3 UC San Diego in a first-round game of the CCAA Tournament. Game time will be 7:30 p.m.
The Warriors are playing in the CCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2014-15 season and has already posted the best record in the last three years.
Mitchell had career highs in points, field goals in a game (10 for 16) and three pointers in a game (6 for 11) en route to his best game at Stan State.
Gouveia added 11 more rebounds to run his career total up to 570 rebounds, putting him at No. 4 of the Stan State career top 10 list. He also had 10 points for his second consecutive double-double.
Medina had eight points, six assists, two steals with three rebounds in 24 minutes of play.
As a team, Stan State had an efficient night, shooting 48.7 percent and made 13 of 36 three-pointers. The Warriors also out-rebounded CSUMB 49-32 and forced 20 Otter turnovers. Stanislaus had its passes working as well, earning 26 assists on 37 made baskets.
While not a senior athletically,
Jordan Santa Maria made his first career start and was great. In 21 minutes, he had six assists, two steals and nine rebounds — all career bests.
Cal State Monterey Bay, which ends the year 4-22, 3-19 CCAA, was led by Jonquis Bouyea with 26 points and eight rebounds.
