TURLOCK — What else is new. The Warriors played two more games decided by two runs or less on Sunday, but ths time they were on the losing end of two one-run games against Sonoma State.
Stanislaus State left 13 runners on base in the first game of the doubleheader to drop a 7-6 decision in 12 innings. In the nightcap, the Warriors came up just short in their rally to fall 4-3 as Sonoma State swept the twinbill.
The Warriors are now 8-6 overall and 4-4 in league play heading into Monday's noon-time doubleheader to complete the series that was postponed due to weather. Sonoma State improved to 7-5, 3-3 CCAA.
Stan State has now played in 13 games (of 14) decided by two runs or less. They had been on the winning end of seven of the first 11 of those games until Sunday.
In game one, the Warriors came back from a 5-2 deficit to eventually tie the game with clinch hits in the seventh and eighth. Stan State had a golden opportunity to win in walk-off fashion in the ninth with the bases loaded and nobody out. However, a double play and a infield pop-up ended that rally.
Brandon De La Guardia went 3-for-5 with two doubles and drove in two scores to lead the Warriors at the plate.
Jack Large was 2-for-5 with a homer and Braedan Oki had two hits.. Starter
Joe Ryan struck out nine in six innings in the no decision.
In game two, the Warriors scored twice on three doubles in the ninth inning to rally back from a 4-1 deficit. Sonoma State had scored three unearned runs in the seventh to go up 4-1.
Large was 3-for-5 in the nightcap, giving him a 5-for-10 day.
Anthony Enwiya was 2-for-4 with two RBI and
Ethan Utler had two doubles.
