Stanislaus State wraps up regular season with split

SEASIDE — Ending the regular season on a high note, the Stanislaus State softball team won the series finale, 4-3, over Cal State Monterey Bay for a split on Saturday.

The Warriors lost game one 3-1 against Haley Fein for the second straight day, but wrapped-up the 2018 regular season with 32-20 overall and 23-15 conference records — both bests since the 2009 season.

Stanislaus State will enter the postseason, at the CCAA Softball Championship next weekend in Stockton, as the No. 3 seed. The Warriors will face No. 2 UC San Diego in the opening round game, Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Bill Simoni Field on the campus of University of the Pacific. Top seed Chico State will face either Cal State San Bernardino or Sonoma State, pending results of Sunday's games between Humboldt State and Sonoma State.

On Saturday, in the final games at Otter Sports Complex, CSUMB ace Haley Fein got the best of the Warriors again in game one with a three-hitter. A RBI double by Ruby Quiralte in the first inning was the Warriors' only run. The Otters scored three time sin the fifth inning with a homer by Fein and a two-run double by Joanna Perruccio.

In the second game, however, it was Stan State's turn with a three-run inning. The Warriors scored three times in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie. Joerdan Lovell blasted a two-run homer after a Desiree Gonzalez one-out single, then Maya Yoshiura followed a Deja Guzman double to make it 4-1.

Anyssa Garvin earned the win in the circle and sister Aliyah Garvin went 3-for-4 to lead the Warriors. Gonzalez and Guzman each ended up 2-for-3 at the plate.
