TURLOCK — There was yet another oddity in a baseball game involving the Warriors on Sunday — a 13-run inning.
Stanislaus State went through the batting order twice to score 13 runs in the third inning of the nightcap as they rebound from a tough loss in game one to split the day. Cal State San Marcos rallied to take a 3-2 decision late in game one, then the Warriors blew past the Cougars, 16-4 in seven innings.
The Warriors improved to 20-15 overall and 16-13 in the CCAA standings, which features a log-jam of six teams a game of each other. Second place UC San Diego is 16-11 in league play while Chico State and Stan State are tied for sixth at 16-13.
That 13-run inning featured 12 hits, including four doubles and a triple. There were two bunt singles and a safely squeeze play. Twice the Warriors clear the bases with doubles by
Jack Large and
Braeden Oki. Seven runs were scored before the first out was recorded. There were three different CSUSM pitchers on the mound in the inning.
Interestingly, the Warriors went down in order in the second and fourth innings.
Michael Wyatt went 4-for-5 with a triple and drove in two runs,
Andrew Wheat was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI,
Jack Large drove in four scores and Oki had three RBI. Every starter had at leas a hit.
Dakota Edwards benefits from the huge run-support, earning the win after throwing five of the seven innings of a short-game. He gave up four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
In game one,
Tyler Murphy had a nice outing with eight strikeouts in eight innings. However, Cal State San Marcos scored twice in the eighth inning to edge the Warriors. Stan State was led by Oki with two hits on offense.
