CHICO —
Joe Ryan became Stanislaus State's record holder in strikeouts as he led the Warriors over Chico State in game one of the doubleheader on Friday.
Ryan fanned 11 Wildcats in seven innings to tally 127 strikeouts this season — a new Stan State single season record. The Warriors (22-28, 17-25 CCAA) snapped a seven-game losing streak in the 4-3 game one win over Chico State.
Ryan improved his personal record to 8-1 with his outing. Ryan allowed just four hits and one run without a walk.
The Warriors offense scored twice in the second inning to give Ryan a 2-0 lead on a double by
Ethan Utler. In the seventh,
Jack Large drove in a run and
John Holleran doubled in another run for a 4-0 Stan State lead.
Chico State rallied for a run in the eighth to end Ryan's day and
Jarrett Veiga allowed two runs in the eighth before
Chase Wheatcroft entered. Wheatcroft recorded five outs for his 11th save of the year.
Veiga and Holleran each had two hits and
Vinny Margiotta went 2-for-4 to lead the Warriors.
Chico State won the nightcap and series finale, 5-1, in seven innings as the teams split the season series. The teams split in Turlock back on Feb. 16-17.
