OAKLAND — The Warriors have matched the program's best start after defeating Western Oregon on Saturday at the D2 West Region Showcase.

Stanislaus State improved to 7-0 on the young season, equaling its best start when the Warriors opened the 2015 season with seven straight wins. Unfortunately, the streak came to an end in the evening match when Cal Poly Pomona defeated Stanislaus, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16.

In another impressive win earlier on Saturday, the Warriors took down the Western Oregon Wolves in straight sets, 25-11, 25-18, 26-24.

Rachel Klopfer (Las Vegas/Green Valley HS) added eight kills and Yisel Perez (Turlock/Pitman HS) spiked seven to help the offense. Bella Rivera (Fremont/American HS) and Breanna Cannon (Phoenix/Pinnacle HS) split time setting with 17 and 16 assists, respectively.

Libero Chelsey Berry (Tracy/Tracy HS) had 14 digs and Klopfer dug nine. Led by Jordon Wilson (Rialto/Mt. San Antonio College), had five blocks, the Warriors' blocking game has stepped-up. They had at least 12 total blocks in each of the three matches this weekend after averaging less than seven per contest last week.

Against the Wolves, the Warriors went off on a 7-0 run to start the match and led by as many as 19 points at 24-5 en route to the dominant set-win.

Gardner also led Stan State with 10 kills in the match against Cal Poly Pomona. Perez and Klopfer each chipped in six kills with Wilson adding four more blocks.
