LA JOLLA — 19th ranked UC San Diego made 14 three-pointers and had its way against Stanislaus State as the Tritons defeated the Warriors 73-56 Thursday night at RIMAC Arena.
UC San Diego led by double digits, 16-4, at 12:20 in the first half after nailing three consecutive three-pointers to run away. The Tritons improved to 12-2 in CCAA play to stay in first place. The Tritions are 17-4 overall.
The Warriors (8-11) dropped to 5-9 in CCAA play and are now three games back of eighth place for the final tournament berth.
Jourdan Johnson led the Warriors with a career-high 12 points. He was 3 for 6 from the field and made two three-pointers. The junior from Castro Valley also made all four free throw attempts.
UCSD made six three-pointers in the first half and got hotter in the second beyond the arch with eight more. Gabe Hadley made five three treys to lead UCSD with 17 points.
The Tritons led by as many as 30 points in the second half.
Stanislaus State will look to rebound on Saturday with an afternoon game at Cal State San Marcos.
