Warriors shutdown Holy Names Hawks with 35-point win

TURLOCK – The Warriors were on their a-game on Friday night as they defeated the Holy Names Hawks 81-46. Stan State shut down Holy Names in the second half when they gained a lead of 37 in the fourth quarter.
 
Stan State succeeds to 1-2 overall while the Hawks are now 0-2.
 
LEADING PERFORMERS
  • At the half there were some new leaders for the Warriors in points. Lauren Toler led with nine and right behind her was Freshman, Taylor Pilot, with six.
  • Kyanna Davis was leading at halftime with five rebounds. She was the leader in rebounds with a total of nine.
  • The leader in points for the Warriors was Lauren Toler with 12.
  • Angelica Baylon led with five steals.
  • Both Toler and Baylon had four assists. 
WARRIORS LAST YEAR
  • The Warriors had a tough season last year going 9-17 overall and 8-14 in the CCAA. They opened up in the CCAA-GNAC Crossover going 0-2, only to go into a cancelled tournament with a week off.
  • Returning to the team, Kyanna Davis has already come out strong after leading the team in 13.4 points per game last year.
  • Leading with a total of 119 assists last season, Angelica Baylon has already made her name as the leader in assists this year. 
SO FAR THIS SEASON
  • Coming off an 0-2 start in the CWU West Region Crossover, the Warriors made this game theirs as shut down the Hawks in the second half. 
WARRIORS ON FIRE
  • The Warriors led by 14 going into the second quarter which is their biggest and only lead so far this season.
  • The Warriors were out-bounding the Hawks at the end of the first quarter 8-13.
  • Going into halftime, the Warriors had a huge lead of 19 points.
  • In the fourth the Warriors gained their biggest lead of 38 points.
  • The Warriors came out of each quarter with the lead. As a matter of fact, the lead never left the Warriors hands expect for a point tie at 2-2 in the first. 
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Warriors are undefeated at 5-0 against the Hawks since they first played in December 2007.  After today, the Warriors remain undefeated at 6-0 against the Hawks.
  • The last time the two teams met, the Warriors won 73-53 in November 2017.
  • The last time that Stan State won by 30 + points was in January 2015 against Cal State L.A.

The Warriors continue in the Warrior Classic tomorrow, November 16, when they take on Notre Dame de Namur at 5 p.m.
