No. 4 seed Warriors fall to the top-seed Seawolves in CCAA Semifinals

LA JOLLA – The Warriors traveled to La Jolla on Wednesday in hopes to take home the CCAA title for 2019. They took on the No. 1 seed Sonoma State on Friday, November 15 and fell 2-1. Even though Stan State lost, they never gave up their energetic attitudes and fought hard to win the game.

The Warriors complete their season 15-5-0 overall and 8-4-0 in the CCAA. The Seawolves will continue in the CCAA Championship, November 17, when they take on the winner of the UC San Diego vs. Cal Poly Pomona match.

GOALS
  • The Seawolves got themselves on the board first in the 20th minute when Alexis Espitia was assisted into the goal by Molly Murphy.
  • The Warriors were not ready to let that goal get to them, Autumn Halvorsen scored at the end of the 20th minute very soon after the Sonoma goal! A great passing game from Megan Stavish to Ilena Rivera over to Jazzmin Thompson. Thompson who earned the assist, passed it over to Halvorsen for the goal from low right.
  • In the 76th minute, Sonoma State pulled ahead after Julia Pritchard made a goal unassisted from a penalty kick.
GOALKEEPER NOTES
  • At the end of the first half, Alyssa Herrman had two saves.
  • Herrman completed her last game as a Warrior with a total of five saves.
  • Ashley Morton of the Seawolves completed two saves.
THE MATCHUP
  • Even though Sonoma State had more shots going into halftime, both teams remained tied.
  • The Warriors held up both their offensive game and defensive game during the entirety of the match.
  • Stan State came back in shots and only was outshot by five. The Seawolves outshot the Warriors 15-10. 7-3 shots on goal.
  • Sadie Ortiz was the top shooter for the Warriors with four shots, two on goal.
NOTEWORTHY
  • Halvorsen was presented with the CCAA Championship Scholar Award earlier in the evening. She has a 3.925 GPA which is the highest among all student-athletes who are at least in their sophomore year of competition.
  • The Seawolves beat the Warriors earlier this month with the same score of 2-1.
THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING SEASON OF STAN STATE WOMEN'S SOCCER!
