TURLOCK — The Stanislaus State softball team lost another close game as the Warriors were sweep by No. 17 UC San Diego in a twinbill on a cold Friday night.
The Warriors battled against the now 11-2, 9-1 CCAA team in game one before losing 8-3. Then, they lost the nightcap, 4-2, to fall to 4-11 and 1-9 in CCAA play.
In 10 conference games, the Warriors have now lost five times by three runs or less including three games decided by two runs.
Stanislaus State had a 3-2 lead in the first game after a
Deja Guzman single in the fourth. But UCSD scored six unanswered runs to jump ahead, a lot of it thanks to four Warrior errors.
Megan Stacy was charged with the hard-luck loss as only two of the eight runs allowed were earned runs.
In game two, the Warriors quickly tied the game up 1-1 in the first after Sherriah Harrington led off the game with a solo homer to left for UCSD. Stan State tied it with an Alexis Martinez single to left that drove in
Melissa Spencer who had doubled to right-center to start the home half of the first.
But UCSD would score single runs in the second, third and seventh innings to go up 4-1.
Maya Yoshiura doubled in
Kayla Fajardo to make it 4-2.
Yoshiura went 3-for-7 with two RBI and a double on the night.
Aliyah Garvin also had three hits in two games, also with a double.
The teams will play two more on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m., to complete the series.
