ROHNERT PARK — Warrior pitchers took a no-hitter into the ninth inning in game two of the double-dip on Saturday to only come away with a tough 4-3 loss against Sonoma State as the host Seawolves won two close games.
Sonoma State had its first two singles in the ninth for the walk-off nightcap win after earning a 5-2 win in the first game.
Yes, Sonoma State had three runs without a hit.
Stanislaus State (7-4, 3-2 CCAA) was ahead 3-0 and
Rylan Tinsley was again pitching well, but a series of unfortunate events gifted SSU two runs in the sixth with a fielder choice, groundouts and two errors in the inning.
In the seventh, John Abate walked, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 3-3 to force extras.
Tinsley threw 6 2/3 innings and gave up the three unearned runs with six strikeouts and walked three. The freshman has now extended his streak of not allowing an earned run to 19 2/3 innings. In fact, these are the only three runs he's allowed in four appearances this season.
Brandon Scott gave up a single to start the ninth and walked the next batter.
Kevin Hahn got two quick outs, but Joshua Lenney singled in the winner for the walk-off win.
Vinny Margiotta had two of the Warriors six hits in game two, including a RBI single in the fifth for the three-run lead.
Braeden Oki went 4-for-5 with a double and stolen base in the first game. However, SSU starter John Cashman fanned seven and slightly out-pitched
Tyler Murphy for the win. Murphy gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits in six innings.
