Warriors hold off NDNU for another 3-0 win to stay unbeaten in tournament

TURLOCK — The visiting Argonauts gave host Stanislaus State a scare on Friday the 13th before the Warriors hang-on to beat Notre Dame de Namur in straight sets.
 
The Warriors have won three straight during the D2 West Region Showcase tournament to improve to 4-2 after the 25-16, 25-16, 26-24 victory at Fitzpatrick Arena.

TOP PERFORMANCES
• Friday's top performer was Rachel Klopfer, who led all players with 13 kills. She also had seven digs and three assisted blocks.
 
Jordon Wilson was part of six blocks, including a solo block. She also had six kills. The Warriors ended up with 15 total blocks on the night.
 
Macky Morris chipped in eight kills and Yisel Perez smacked seven.
 
Eyriana Eatmon had 16 assists and 12 digs for a double-double. Breanna Cannon dished 19 assists.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
• In set two, the Warriors scored nine straight points (including eight with Eatmon serving), for a 15-3 lead. Klopfer had four consecutive kills during this stretch.
 
• After two easy set-wins, the Warriors rolled out to a 9-3 lead in the third. But NDNU rallied to push Stan State. The Argonauts scored 16 of the next 24 points for a 19-17 lead. Two errors and a Wilson ace gave Stanislaus back the lead.
 
• NDNU tied set three at 20-20 and 24-24 until back-to-back spikes by Klofper and Perez ended the match.


NOTEWORTHY
• All three Stan State matches during the tournament were 3-0 wins.
 
• The Warriors are having the early positive results despite missing returning All-American Sierra Adams due to injury.
 
TOURNAMENT STATUS:
• Stanislaus State could win this pod of the Showcase with a win Saturday evening. The Warriors would be 4-0 if they could beat Holy Names. Every other team already has a loss.
 
• Two players from this pod will be named, among players from the other five sites, to the overall All-Tournament team.
 
• Other results from Friday: Sonoma State (2-1 in tournament) dominated Holy Names (0-2), 3-0; Northwest Nazarene (2-1) rallied to beat Notre Dame de Namur, 3-2; and Western Oregon (1-2) posted its first win with a 3-0 win over Holy Names.

The Warriors conclude their schedule of the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase on Saturday at 5 p.m. versus Holy Names.
