TURLOCK – The Warriors battled the Academy of Art Sunday night in their home opener and scored twice with a man down to beat the Urban Knights 2-1 in overtime.
Stanislaus State succeeds to 1-0-0 while Academy of Art falls to 0-2-0.
GOALS
- Adrian Cekala overcame the Stan State defense and ran the ball all the way down the field to score AAU's first goal in the 57th minute.
- In the 77th minute, Jake Mendoza scored with an assist from Ryan Kane after a scramble in front of the box.
- In overtime, Adolfo Maldonado scored the golden goal on a free kick in the 95th minute.

NOTEWORTHY
- The last time the Urban Knights and the Warriors met they tied 2-2. Overall the two teams are 1-1-2 since they first played in August, 2008.
- Playing with a man down, the Warriors scored their first goal in the 77th minute after Adrian Yepez received a red card.
