Carr earns first collegiate win as Warriors split doubleheader with Sonoma State

TURLOCK — Freshman lefty Casey Carr had his best outing in his young career and the Warriors' offense rebounded from its first loss of the season as Stan State won game two on Saturday to earn a doubleheader split.

After Sonoma State took game one 8-5 to end the Warriors' seven-game winning streak, Stanislaus State won the nightcap, 7-1, to improve to 8-1, 2-1 CCAA.
 
WARRIORS OF THE DAY
Casey Carr threw a seven-inning complete game in the nightcap.
• Four Warriors each had three hits in the twinbill on the day.
Zach Jones went 3-for-5 in game one.
Jayce Gardner was 3-for-6 in the doubleheader.
Matt Elser had three hits, including a 2-for-3 game two when he had a double.
Grant Bunker went 3-for-3 in game two.
Jacob Garcia was 3-for-8 on the day.
Erek Bolton homered in the first game, his first dinger as a Warrior. It was a three-run shot in the fourth inning of game one.
 
CARR'S FIRST COLLEGIATE WIN
Casey Carr (Turlock/Turlock HS) threw seven innings and gave up just a run on six hits and struck out eight in the win.
• After allowing two one-out singles in the first, he retired eight straight for the fourth inning.
 
SCORING IN ALMOST EVERY INNING
• The Warriors scored in five of the six innings played in the nightcap.
Dylon Jackson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to start a three-run third inning scoring rally.
Matt Elser singled down the left-field line to plate Jayce Gardner.
• A Nathan Gutierrez sac fly to left scored Alexis Paz to make it 4-0.
 
SERIES FINALE
Sunday's four-game series finale is scheduled for a Noon start.
