TURLOCK — The game that ultimately completed the tournament schedule started late and went into overtime finally ended a quarter past 10 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Arena.
In the end, the two teams that played in Turlock and meet again in Chico Tuesday night.
Chico State outlasted Stanislaus State, 78-77, in overtime late Saturday night to complete the regular season schedule. The Warriors ended up 15-12 overall and 11-11 in CCAA play. Chico State improved to 22-6, 17-5.
CCAA TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
• The Warriors are the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament, which starts on Tuesday on campus sites for the quarterfinals.
• Chico State earns the No. 3 seed and will host the Warriors at Acker Gym at 7:30 p.m., following its women's first round game.
• Top seeded UC San Diego hosts Cal State L.A., No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona versus Cal State Dominguez Hills, and No. 4 Cal State San Bernardino hosts Cal State East Bay in the other quarterfinal games.
SATURDAY NIGHT'S STARS
•
Darius Scott led with 21 points and seven rebounds. He also had three assists. He made four three-pointers on the night.
•
Xavier Francois scored 15 points on 7 of 9 shooting with five rebounds.
•
Vida Faniel scored 11 points with two blocked shots and five boards.
•
Ty Davis had six rebounds, five assists, four steals to go with eight points.
•
Fred Lavender scored nine points,
Brandon Thomas scored three and
Frankie Campbell made a free throws to round-out the seniors scoring on Senior Night.
LATE IN THE GAME
•
Xavier Francois had given the Warriors a 64-61 lead with 1:28 to play in regulation.
• Justin Briggs made a layup and converted on a three-point play with a free throw to tie the game and eventually sent the game into extra time.
• A three-pointer by
Vida Faniel with six seconds left in overtime pulled the Warriors within one.
• A pair of free throws by Joshua Hamilton made it 78-75.
• A three-point try by
Ty Davis was blocked but the rebounded went into the hands of
Darius Scott, who banked in a jumper as time expired.
LATE START
• The women's game, which precede the men's game went into overtime.
• A lengthy pregame ceremony, recognizing the seniors, delayed the start of the contest.
• The game started at 8:20 p.m.
ROAD WARRIORS
• Having to play on the road in the postseason may not be the worst thing. Stan State is 11-5 in games away from home this season. The Warriors are 4-7 at the Fitz.
• The Warriors beat Chico State way back on Nov. 21 in Chico, 74-66.
