Frantic overtime game leaves Warriors in one-point loss on senior day

TURLOCK – The Warriors fought to get the win against the Wildcats as they knew it left open the possibility for them to gain a higher seed for the CCAA Tournament. Despite the high-energy for senior night, the Warriors were left in a one-point loss in overtime. The Wildcats scored last minute baskets to take the win over the Warriors, 70-69.
 
The Warriors finish their regular season 14-13 and 12-10 in the CCAA. The Wildcats head into post-season with their regular overall record being 18-11 and 14-8 in the CCAA.
 
SENIORS LEADING THE WAY ON SENIOR DAY
  • All three seniors were leaders for the Warriors as they took on Chico State.
  • Brittney Livingston led the team with 13 points and also made eight rebounds. She shot 50. Percent from the field and went 3-for-3 for free throws.
  • Lizzy Alexander scored ten points and also shot 4-for-8 from the field shooting at 50 percent.
  • Angelica Baylon had five steals and scored nine points.
  • Other than the seniors, Kyanna Davis score 12 points and led with ten rebounds.
  • Kaleigh Taylor was also a leader with ten rebounds.
WARRIORS GIVE IT ALL FOR LAST GAME BEFORE POST SEASON
  • The Warriors had the lead coming out of the first half as they were leading 27-21 over the Wildcats.
  • The team scored 32 points in the paint and 17 off turnovers.
  • The women did pretty well from the free throw line as they went 8-for-14.
  • They shot 100 percent from the free throw line in two of four quarters and overtime.
  • Overtime would show the Warriors best shooting during the game when they shot 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point arc.
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Warriors are 13-29 against the Wildcats since they first met in January 1999.
  • The last time the two teams met on November 21, 2019, the Warriors beat the Wildcats 71-66. Davis and Taylor both went for the double-double in that game and succeeded.
  • The Wildcats gain the fourth seed after their win on Saturday.
  • The Warriors will take the sixth seed in the tournament and will take on Cal Poly Pomona for the first round.
  • This is the only time that the Warriors faced an overtime game during the conference season. 
UP NEXT: TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
 
The Warriors will take on No. 3 seed Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday, March 3 in Pomona at 5:30 p.m. This will be the first round of the CCAA Championship Tournament before the final teams will head down to La Jolla.
