Stanislaus State lets game get away as L.A. rallied late in finale

TURLOCK — The Warriors let the game get away late, as visiting Cal State L.A. rallied to take the series finale, 8-7, on Sunday.

Cal State L.A., which entered the week with a nine-game losing streak, leaves Stanislaus with a split and a 6-14 overall, 5-11 CCAA.
 
Stanislaus State falls to 14-8, 8-8 in conference play.
 
TOP WARRIORS OF THE GAME
Zach Jones went 1-for-4 with a triple and drove in three runs. He continues to get on base and stretched that straight to all 22 games.
Dylon Jackson drove in two runs.
Jacob Garcia and Grant Bunker each scored twice.
• Seven of the nine batters in the starting lineup each had at least a hit.
 
JUMPED OUT TO EARLY LEAD
• The Warriors scored five runs in the second inning with just two singles for a 5-0 lead.
• Stan State received five free bases on walks and two hit batsman for the rally.
Dylon Jackson capped the rally with a two-run single to center.
• Stan State tagged on two more runs in the third on a two-run triple by Zach Jones to make it 7-2.
 
L.A. SCORED LATE
• Cal State L.A. middle relievers held the Warriors down and used a big five-run eighth to comeback.
• Amador Fino was most impressive as he threw three shutout innings, gave up one hit and struck out five to get the win.
• The Golden Eagles also capitalized on free bases in their rally.
• In the eighth, two walks, a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch scored a run.
• Then three straight hits plated four runs to make it 8-7.
 
SERIES TOTALS
Grant Victor went 6-for-11 (.535) with two walks in the series.
Matt Elser had five hits, including two doubles, and drove in five uns.
• The teams were even on offense each with 27 runs and 39 hits with seven doubles in the four-game set.
• Stan State hit .315 with a team ERA of 6.35.
• LA hit .287 with a team ERA of 7.31.
 
ON DECK
The Warriors travel to San Bernardino for a four-game series at Cal State San Bernardino next weekend. The Coyotes (6-16, 3-13 CCAA) were swept at Chico and have lost six straight.
