LOS ANGELES — Facing yet another tough opponent for the third consecutive game, the Stanislaus State men's soccer team were downed Sunday, 4-0, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest at No. 19 Cal State L.A. at University Stadium.
The 19th-ranked Golden Eagles (6-2-1, 4-0-0 CCAA) scored three goals in a 15-minute span during the first 35 minutes of the game. Jorge Orellana got the scoring started after the Warriors (5-5-1, 1-3-0 CCAA) had held them scoreless for more than 18 minutes. His header goal off of David Elizaga's free kick into the box made it 1-0 in the 19th minute. Morten Bjoershol made it 2-0 10 minutes later on a penalty kick goal. And Aiden Wait made it 3-0 off of assists from both Daniel Yu and Lucas Rosales.
The Warriors' defense settled down after that flurry of scoring, holding the Golden Eagles at bay for the next 40 minutes. The offense also stepped up, outshooting Cal State L.A., 7-3, in the second half. CSULA added on an insurance goal in the 76th minute, with Manuel Villena scoring while sliding into a pass sent in by Orellana.
Stanislaus State next hosts Humboldt State at 7 p.m. Thursday before traveling to Chico State on Sunday. Fans can purchase tickets and find all live coverage links on WarriorAthletics.com.
