Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Another Warriors Shutout Ends in Draw at Chico

CHICO — That's eight.

Eight shutouts this season for the Stanislaus State women's soccer team, and another fantastic performance by the Warriors' defense, as they held host Chico State scoreless Sunday for 110 minutes on the road in a 0-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association tie at University Soccer Stadium.

Stanislaus State goalkeeper Amanda Leal logged her eighth shutout of the season – tied for fifth all-time in program history for a single season. She lowered her goals against average to 0.55, which currently stands second all-time in a single season. And the Warriors' (5-4-3, 2-1-3 CCAA) back line held another top-of-the-standings team in check, this time keeping Chico State (7-2-3, 3-1-2 CCAA) away from getting any real chances going.

"I'm very proud of how we played today," said Stanislaus State head coach Gabriel Bolton. "Chico is always a tough opponent and a tough place to play. We brought great energy and enthusiasm to the match.

"Defensively, we were organized and disciplined. We also did a great job of marking and defending their free kicks and corner kicks."

Chico State had nine corner kick opportunities to the Warriors' eight, and also outshot Stan State, 17-14. Only seven of the Wildcats' shots made it on net – with Leal making all seven saves – while the Warriors landed nearly half of their shots on goal with six.

"We created some excellent chances, but their goalkeeper made a couple of incredible saves," said Bolton. "I thought our performances this weekend were that of a team that's growing."

Stanislaus State is unbeaten in six of its last seven matches, and hosts its final home games of the season next weekend. Friday, Cal State San Marcos visits for a 4:30 p.m. matchup. Sunday is Senior Day, where the Warriors will honor all of their outgoing seniors in a pregame ceremony before the scheduled 11:30 a.m. kickoff versus San Francisco State.
