SAN MARCOS –The Warrior women pulled out their third conference win as they defeated the Cougars of Cal State San Marcos in five sets. Both teams won sets back and forth but ultimately the Warriors won 3-2. (18-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-19, 15-11)
The Warriors are now 3-3 in conference and 7-7 overall.
While it was a tough match overall, key players like
Mya Marshall and
Yisel Perez on offense and
Chelsey Berry on defense, the Warriors played competitively to get the win.
Mya Marshall and
Yisel Perez both had 16 kills and Marshall also had 15 digs.
Chelsey Berry ended the game with 23 digs overall.
Haley Burdo once again was seen with a huge 36 assists and also 13 digs.
This Warrior team together had 57 kills, 53 assists and 73 digs over five sets.
A rough first set wouldn't stop the Warriors as they stole that three-point win in the second set to keep the competition going. Even though they lost the third set by 11, the women put that fire back under them in the fourth and fifth sets.
Even against Cougar players like Kassy Doering with 15 kills and Madison Turner's 42 assists, Stan State kept up the hard work to ultimately get the win.
The women will be back home on Friday, October 8 to take on Cal State Domingues Hills at 5 p.m. for another great competition.
