SAN BERNARDINO — The Stanislaus State volleyball season came to an end Friday, with host and No. 3-ranked Cal State San Bernardino battling to its 19th consecutive win with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-22) California Collegiate Athletic Association sweep at Coussoulis Arena.
Â
The Coyotes (22-3, 17-0 CCAA) used big runs in all three sets to either pull away or come from behind against the Warriors (12-14, 8-10 CCAA). CSUSB led the whole way in the first set, using an 8-2 run midway through to grab a sizeable lead at 18-9 before winning, 25-17. Stan State led, 9-5, in set two, but a long, 18-6 Coyotes run put the set away as they went on to a 25-18 win and a 2-0 match lead.
Â
Stanislaus State battled even harder in the third set, using a 4-0 sprint in the middle to take a 15-11 advantage. It was déjà vu though, as an 8-2 run by Cal State San Bernardino gave it back the lead at 19-17, just like the first set. Later, the Warriors scored three of four points to tie it at 22-all, but the 'Yotes scored each of the last three points on a kill from Melissa Garciglia, a service ace from Asia Clarke, and a Stan State error, to complete the sweep.
Â
Yisel Perez had a well-rounded performance in her final match as a Warrior with six kills, a match-high 11 digs and an ace.
Mariah Iosua led the Warriors with eight kills.
Haley Burdo had a team-high 15 assists.
Â
Cal State San Bernardino was led by Garciglia's 17 kills on .324 hitting. Marlee Nunley tallied 39 assists and Alexis Cardoza paced the defense with 11 digs.
